Stridulum is the sixth release and second EP by Zola Jesus, released on March 9, 2010 by Sacred Bones Records. It was expanded into the full-length album Stridulum II, released later in 2010. On August 2017, the EP was reissued into an LP, which complies the EPs Valusia and Stridulum. With its more sophisticated sound, Stridulum was still self-recorded over two hurried weeks between college semesters in Danilova's bedroom, rushed so it could be released in time for the 2010 South by Southwest festival. The tracks on Stridulum follow a pattern that opener Night nails at the start: They build from minimal but insistent beats and simple melodies into crescendos where the synthesizer tones, sampled incidental noise, and layered vocals merge into a stirring whole. Danilova leans on immediate, familiar phrases here: At the end of the night, we'll be together again When you're lost, know I'll be around It's not easy to fall in love I can't stand to see you this way. The lyrics are visceral, and swooning chords a. Zola Jesus released an EP titled Stridulum in 2010, described as her most melodic work to date. Inspired by the Giulio Paradisi 1979 film of the same name, it marked a huge leap forward in terms of fidelity and accessibility. After the release Zola Jesus performed at the SXSW festival, for her second time. Her second full-length album Stridulum II, which was an extension of the EP regarded as a debut in the UK, received 810 from NME which praised Danilova's classically trained voice as the deadliest weapon in her arsenal and called the album a dark masterpie
