Testament: Low and The Ritual now available for the first time in the USA on vinyl via Metal Blade Records On September 29th, Metal Blade Records Ritual is the fifth album by the American thrash metal band Testament. This would be Testament's highest position in their career, until 2012's Dark Roots of Earth, which reached number twelve on the same chart. The record also spawned the band's only charting single Return to Serenity, which reached number 22 on Mainstream Rock Tracks. In fact, The Ritual is a microcosm of the entire thrash metal scene. Once seemingly indestructible, by 1992 the group was crumbling towards an ignominious end, and despite possessing the genre's most technically gifted guitarist in Alex Skolnick and one of its most fearsome growls in vocalist Chuck Billy, Testament was obviously going down with the ship

listening now, sounds great. bottom end is fat. no background noise. as far as low volume, some of these recent represses are long albums on 1 record, so they have to lower it some to keep it sounding decent. just turn it up.

I don’t recall anything amazing or great about this pressing. It’s ok but it’s not worth a ton.

I just got around to checking reviews here. I have this pressing and mine sounds excellent. The only thing I notice is the bottom end just needs like 2 db of boost. I have an eq system that I can save profiles to and one is set for just this case. I find lots of pressings from the 60s to now that are mastered with low bottom and sometimes low top end too. I clean my records, even brand new ones, before I give them a first spin on my system. Sometimes even new records can have leftover release agent from the press. I had a GnR reissue that was bad with this and it took 4 good cleanings on my record cleaning machine. One pass, I had to manual clean first by scrubbing back and forth, not heavy pressure, just to make sure the fine bristles got in the groove well and cut the stuff loose.
Kamuro
It's not the greatest pressing by any means, I do however thing this one sounds better than the 2017 Metal Blade reissue of "Low", that one sounded real bad.
Groll
I don't know if any of you listened to this reissue, but it sounds terrible. Loud backround noise and static in between songs. Most disappointing reissue I have heard to date. One of the best Testament albums ever, and they give it the worst pressed reissue ever. Does not make sense... please let me know if any of you get this record and experience what I did.

thanks to your review, I decided not to get this.

Yeah, very poor quality pressing. Lots of surface noise. Gets worse the closer you get to the centre label. Clear Groove cleaned it up a bit, but still pretty much unplayable.

Mine sounds fine! No constant clicking, just the occasional one, but not loud. I think it lacks a little on the low end though. I pulled out my cd version, and sounds like they pretty much took that source to vinyl. I just increased the bass a little and increased the volume on both of my subs a little, problem solved.
Natety
Appreciate your review. I almost bought this but decided last minute not to. I saw another review on Amazon about how awful the sound quality is and how the artwork is bad as well - this confirms it.
Xor
I get a nice 14 DR but the background clicking-noise is constant as if it's a 30 year old dirty record. In addition, the volume is very low.
