Susan: How was your day at school today, Nicole. Формируйте собственную коллекция коллекцию записей Etoile De Dakar Featuring Youssou N'Dour, Mar Seck & El Hadji Faye. Étoile de Dakar Star of Dakar were a leading music group of Senegal in the 1970s. The group was formed in 1978 by Badou Ndiaye and members of the Star Band, one of Dakar's best known nightclub house bands of the 1970s. Leading the group allowed Youssou N'Dour to launch his career as Senegal's first pop star, and after Étoile de Dakar broke up, he continued calling his band Super Étoile de Dakar. Volume 1 - Absa Etoile. Maybe the strains that would split the group - with N'Dour turning his Etoile Super and going international, while El Hadji Faye and Mar Seck transformed their branch into Etoile 2000 - were to blame for these relatively lukewarm performances. Khaley Etoile is a well-crafted album, but not one that really knocks you out - it would have been nicer if N'Dour's first band had sailed off into history in a blaze of musical glory. And truthfully, nothing on these four albums comes close to the best of Orchestra Baobab, especially Bamba. Track Listing. Youssou N'Dour. Etoile de Dakar, Youssou N'Dour, Mar Seck & El Hadji Faye. The final release in Stern's Etoile de Dakar series hits the band at the disintegrating end of its career, in some 1980s tracks that absolutely burn. There's a creative tension between the various stars in this band, all on their way to new careers, and facing Youssou N'Dour's looming international stardom. The strong Latin and rumba influences give way to a more Senegalese sound, with mbalax becoming a more common term for the music. The singers are all in their prime here, with N'Dour's trademark wail developing to full tilt and El Hadji Faye at his soulful best. The Latin groove still thrives, though, and N'Dour's Alboury closes the record out in steamy style
